about

After we (Ingrid Galadriel, NO, Christopher Juul, DK, & Maria Franz NO) have been jamming and exchanging traditional tunes at historical events for many years, we felt the need to gather all our favourite songs and record them in Christopher Juuls Lava Studio in Copenhagen. Some are traditional, some are new compositions, the core is Nordic folk. Folk er godt, made by godt folk :-)

Track Name: Ravnene
Jeg hørte to ravner at holde råd
Den ene seg til den annen vendte;

English:

When I was walking alone in the meadow
I heard to ravens holding council
The one turned to the other;
Where should we get our food today?
Where should we get our food today?

Behind the grass mound by the old fence
There lies a newly slain knight
And no one else knows that he lies there
Not even his hound, his hawk and his hearts beloved
Not even his hound, his hawk and his hearts beloved

His hawk was hunting in the wild forest
His hound was hunting high and low
His wife has promised her faith to another
we can eat our food in piece
we can eat our food in piece

You can sit on his white neck bone
While I peck out his blue eyes
And with a lock of his blond hair
We will cover our nest the next spring
We will cover our nest the next spring
Track Name: Herr Ole

Hva haver du i Rosenlund at gjøre?
SI mangler deg her hvile eller mangler deg her fred
mangler deg her klæder eller føde?

Her mangler ikke hvile her mangler ikke fred
Her mangler verken klæder eller føde

English:

Mr Ole worked at the kings farm
He worked for food and clothes
The he received a message from the Valley of roses
It stated that his beloved was dead

Mr Ole went to the kings broad table
He showed a big display of manners
Then he begged, he asked his king permission
To travel to the Valley of roses

Oh my dear Ole, tell me at once
What business do you have in the Valley of roses?
Tell me, do you lack rest or peace?
Do you lack clothes or food?

Here is enough rest and enough peace for me
Here is enough clothes and food for me
But I received a message from the Valley of roses
That states the death of my beloved

Mr Ole rode to the mothers house
He tied his horse to a pole
Then he went inside the chamber
There he saw both wife's and maidens

Mr Ole stood on the floor and cried
He rubbed his hands sore
And all the white sand that lay on the floor
Got wet by Oles tears

Mr Ole fell down on his knees
He lay like he wanted to sleep
His poor soul he delivered to the Gods
And then he gave his last breath

They were both taken and put upon a table
The casket was made out of marble
Now they will rest so sweet until the resurrection
They rest in each others arms

English:

The farmer had a doughter so fair
Friar you will come over the fjords
With golden hair and her voice so clean
Friar you will soon lay in the ground

And many young men came to ask her hand
Friar you will come over the fjords
But the farmer would not give her away
Friar you will soon lay in the ground

ref. The girl walks towards the fire, with glowing eyes she pulls and she hits
A Friar can fight with a sword, but in the flames his journey will end
An old curse a heavy load to bear, she was condemned to burn

A Friar arrived from the castle in the north
Friar you will come over the fjords
With a sword in his shaft and willpower so strong
Friar you will soon lay in the ground

When the night darkened he snuck inn
Friar you will come over the fjords
Found the girl and said you will be mine
Friar you will soon lay in the ground

ref.

Out from the fire place came beams of fire
Friar you will come over the fjords
His fight was tough but the flames were to wild
Friar you will soon lay in the ground

And the girl walked towards the flames so angry
Friar you will come over the fjords
The Friar swings his sword but he is beaten down
Friar you will soon lay in the ground

ref.
Track Name: Vinda

Hør vindens salme den synges over fjellet

Hør vindens salme den synges over fjellet
Hør vindens salme den synges over fjellet

English:

Slowly the journey goes like the walk of an old man
Seeking in the waves and seeking in the sand

The waves did not know, the sand did not see anything
Slowly the journey goes when the hunger makes you full

Hear the psalm of the wind, its being sung over the mountain
And you, will you listen to this melody in the evening?

Feet walks gently in treacherous field and meadow
Sleep is scarce on a thorny bed

Hear the psalm of the wind, its being sung over the mountain
And you, will you listen to this melody in the evening?
Hear the psalm of the wind, its being sung over the mountain
And you, will you listen to this melody in the evening?

Feel the warm of the wind its caressing a weary chin
Allow the winds psalm to ease your mind
Track Name: Hei Skål
// Frend, kopp, frend, kopp, hei skål //

Frend har du drikke i din kopp
Hei skål
Vi blir til vi har drukket opp
Hei skål
Vi blir til morgengry

Menn og kvinner synger i kor
Hei skål
Den skål var bedre enn i fjor
Hei skål
Vi blir til morgengry

Vi danser rundt i takt
Hei Skål
Og glemmer alt som vi har sagt
Hei skål
Vi blir til morgengry

Sangen gagner sjelen så godt
Hei skål
Syng med på denne slått
Hei Skål
Vi blir til morgengry

Tor han banker på min skall
Hei skål
I takt jeg synger denne trall
Hei skål
Vi blir til morgengry

Morgengry har gull i munn
Hei skål
Det er den beste grunn
Vi blir til morgengry

English:

// Friend, cup, friend, cup, hey cheers //

Friend do you have a drink in your cup
Hey cheers
Vi stay until its empty
Hey cheers
We stay until the morning rises

Men and wimmen sing in unison
Hey cheers
That toast was better than last year
Hey cheers
We stay until the morning rises

We dance around to the beat
Hey cheers
And forget everything that has been said
We stay until the morning rises
Hey cheers

The song is good for the soul
Hey cheers
Sing along to this tune
Hey cheers
We stay until the morning rises

Thor is banging on my scull
Hey cheers
I sing this song to the beat
Hey cheers
We stay until the morning rises

Morning time is the golden hour
Hey cheers
This is the best reason
We stay until the morning rises
